Evelyn (Yitong) Xu

Evelyn (Yitong) Xu is a violinist and violin teacher currently completing a Master of Music in Music Education at the University of Auckland. She began studying the violin in early childhood and has received several competition awards in China, including Third Prize at the Shaanxi Music Awards Provincial Final (2022), First Prize at the 3rd Shaanxi Province Violin Performance Exhibition (2023), and Second Prize in the Shaanxi regional round of the American Virtuoso International Music Competition (2024). In 2024, she gave a solo violin recital in Shaanxi.

Since moving to Auckland, Evelyn has performed with the University of Auckland Orchestra and as a member of the second violin section of Bach Musica NZ. In September 2026, she performed in the orchestra for NYOA’s production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.

Evelyn brings five years of violin teaching experience in China, including three years in Beijing and two in Xi’an. She has worked with intermediate and advanced students, guiding their musical development and preparing many for ABRSM examinations. Her teaching combines clear communication with a supportive, student-centred approach, tailoring lessons to each student’s abilities, goals, and pace of learning. She aims to help students build technical confidence, develop musical expression, and cultivate an lasting enjoyment of playing the violin.
